GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!
New Car-Jacking                         Scheme! Our Mailing address is:  Lenoir Amateur Radio Club,  P.O. Box 3276, Lenoir, NC, 28645. ARRL Affiliation Our Constitution & ByLaws provide that our Fiscal Year runs from Jan 1st to December 31st of each year and that yearly membership dues (Lifetime Memberships excepted) become due & payable after Jan 1st.  Members are not considered in arrears until after March 31st.  Members with dues in arrears will be dropped from the Membership Rolls after that date.

There were no new visitors or members to join the club during last month's meeting (August). We sincerely need to conduct a membership drive!  There are a lot of new hams in and around Lenoir that could bolster up our membership rolls.  If you know of any...give them a call and invite them to a meeting! Please note! Speaking of Addresses... The LARC now has a brand-new web domain identity - thanks to Gary, KD4YTU!  He has secured for us the domain address of Lenoir-ARC.org (and .net) .  Gary will set up a number of email addresses using this domain and later will host our very own website on his server free of charge!  Add ti onally, this newsletter will be available on the website for viewing and/or printing simply by clicking on one of the several "tabs".  Work will begin shortly on the design and implementation of the new website!! The editor reserves the right to edit and/or paraphrase articles or "news" submitted for inclusion into the LARC newsletter due to time, content, and/or space constraints.  No political and/or religious viewpoints please!   Submit articles, etc.,  to Jim, N4EUX, at n4eux@arrl.net    tnx! Pg 2    NOTE:  SEPTEMBER 11TH  CLUB MEETING -  GAMEWELL FIRE DEPARTMENT -  7 PM  ! The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986 (21 years minus 4) !
Repeater Committee : In case you have missed it elsewhere (Ha!  Fat chance!), the long coordination process for re-coordination of the club repeater has been realized at last...and the repeater is back on the air at 146.625 (down 600) Mhz. If utilized later, the tone access will be 98.4 Mhz.

EOC Kiosk Committee :  Note: The kiosk is temporarily unavailable to members due to the fact that controlled drugs are now being stored in the rear portions of the top floor of Emergency Management and requires accompaniment of an EMT to gain access.  The kiosk, at this writing, still remains in limbo.
As mentioned in a couple of emails to members of the Lenoir ARC and Caldwell County ARES, you know that the two websites associated with these entities took a hit in the form of corrupted files during a harddrive crash and transferring files to a new harddrive.  Due to the extensive repair that is going to be required to rebuild the regular website screens and their many pages, it was decided to finish up this month's newsletters and use a "loader" screen to enable viewing of this month's newsletter (and a couple prior newsletters as well).  Then...the laborius task will begin to rebuild the regular websites (from a 2-year old file).
I missed a lot of you at the Shelby/Dallas hamfest!  Matter-of-fact, I didn't see anyone from Lenoir except the Ayers!
