GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

By the time you read this, the Shelby Hamfest for 2006 will be just a memory!  I trust you (and I) got what you were looking for.  Basically, I was looking for items to complete the mobiliztion of my new HF rig, a Yaesu FT-857D.  That means mobile antenna fixin's for the most part.  Aside from that, it's no telling what treasures and goodies the XYL allowed me to bring home! Switching gears, I spent the better part of the last two weeks modifying and expanding the CARES website (to be uploaded to the server on Friday, September 1st).  I hope you will find the improvements to your liking!  To go directly to the website from here, just click this link:
