GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

ARRL Affiliation Our Constitution & ByLaws provide that our Fiscal Year runs from Jan 1st to December 31st of ech year and that yearly membership dues (Lifetime Memberships excepted) become due & payable after Jan 1st.  Members are not considered in arrears until after March 31st.  Members with dues in arrears will be dropped from the Membership Rolls after that date.
There were no new visitors or new members to report for the June 2008 meeting.  Matter-of-fact, there were very few members present at the meeting either!  But this is to be expected...what with longer daylight hours to allow more time to do outside activities such as yardwork, etc.   We did muster a quorum for business tho. Please note! Speaking of Addresses... The LARC now has a brand-new web domain identity - thanks to Gary, KD4YTU!  He has secured for us the domain address of Lenoir-ARC.org (and .net) .  Gary will set up a number of email addresses using this domain and later will host our very own website on his server free of charge!  Add ti onally, this newsletter will be available on the website for viewing and/or printing simply by clicking on one of the several "tabs".  Work will begin shortly on the design and implementation of the new website!! Repeater Committee : There seems to be some progress being made...as we have heard from the SERA Repeater Committee and it appears they, perhaps, are taking action on our prior repeater-pair request!  Hopefully, details will be more available at time of next (August) Newsletter.

EOC Kiosk Committee :  Note: The kiosk is temporarily unavailable to members due to the fact that controlled drugs are now being stored in the rear portions of the top floor of Emergency Management and requires accompaniment of an EMT to gain access.  The kiosk, at this writing, still remains in limbo.
Well, I have learned my lesson...again! Early this morning (3 AM), as I was putting the final touches to this newsletter, and just prior to saving my 3-hour work session and QRT'ing the compuer and hitting the rack, the flying-fickle-finger-of-fate struck...the power "blipped" a microsecond or two!  It was just long enough to cause my computer to re-boot (losing my 3 hours work).  I had once again committed the Cardinal Sin-a violation of the First Rule of Computing, which has something to do with "save your work early, and save it often!"!  So instead of uploading this newsletter and putting the newsletter to bed for another month, I am in the process of rebuilding files, text, etc.  So remember (as a word to the wise), save your work about every 4-5 minutes!! (Editor now skulks off in shame).
