The Caldwell Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) Net is called every Sunday night at 8:30 PM on the 147.33 (Hibriten) repeater. This is a formal directed net and is sponsored by the ARES. Its purpose is to train, and keep in readiness, a pool of qualified emergency radio operators in the event of a local and/or regional emergency.  Net checkins will be called by alpha groups and, unless you check in & out, you will be called again during the informal portion to offer any comments, etc.  The 147.33 repeater has a CTCSS tone of 141.3 mhz.       ??   Did you know...  ?? The first mention of an iceburg in world literature did not come till 800 A.D.  An account of the travels of the Irish monk St. Brendan in the North Atlantic, three centuries before, appeared about then and mentioned his having sighted a "floating crystal castle".  What else could that have been?

ARRL Congratulates Centenarian     ANTENNA WORK PARTY!
During the May workparty, two new antennas were installed atop the EOC to support the newly installed equipment.  An HF antenna is next!

Next      EOC KIOSK PROGRESS! The EOC kiosk is, at last, showing some progress!  During May, a work party was conducted at the EOC for the installation of a 220 tranceiver (on left) and a 2m/440 transceiver (shown on right)...both powered by an Astron 35M power supply (center of photo).  A high-speed internet PC is on the far left (not shown).
The ARRL has extended its congratulations to League member Harvey Baalke, W9HNX, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, who celebrated his 100th birthday March 23. Wrote ARRL CEO David Sumner, K1ZZ, on the League's behalf: "I seldom have the privilege of writing to an ARRL member on the occasion of their 100th birthday! Please accept belated congratulations on behalf of the Board, staff and your fellow members of the ARRL. I know you have seen many changes since you were first licensed. One thing that has not changed is the unique camaraderie among radio amateurs of different generations and cultures. Best wishes from the worldwide Amateur Radio community. Sincere 73." Baalke first joined the ARRL in 1936.
