What attributes make a "good" Ham?
No...not the eating kind! Ham radio operators, by their very nature, are outgoing (usually friendly), inquisitive, and for the most part...intelligent. But you can be these things without ever having taken an exam for a Ham license! However, by adding the above attributes to your willingness to help others through "Elmering", rendering assistance through public service (ARES, RACES, SKYWARN, etc.), and by being active on the ham bands, you are a valuable asset to our wonderful hobby! Are YOU a good Ham??
GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life. Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range. In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Field Day is coming! Let's make it fun and exciting! How about some competition? No rewards...just plain
recognition
. For what, you ask? Ex: best wacky photo taken during FD, nicest station set-up, best food/snack, neatest/fastest logger, furtherest contact, nearest contact, "cool-est" contact, and/or ham with most non-ham friends/family making contacts. Enough? Remember the club callsign, KF4WOD,
(Kilo Foxtrot 4 Whiskey Oscar Delta). Memorize the phonetics. Anyone want to lead in a cheer!? 73 de ka4hkk, Tom.
The 2nd Repeater Work Detail was held May 28th...and naturally...it rained early on. But that didn't stop the intrepid crew! The old antenna was removed from atop the 100-ft tower, the old enclosure was moved to one side, and a new 8x8 foot walk-in building to enclose the repeater was begun. A day or two later, Jerry, KF4PJJ, and a 2-man ground crew installed the new Ringo Ranger antenna! For work-in-progress photos, click on the camera icon.
The Newsletter undergoes constant changes...with columns coming/going, in an attempt to bring you a newsy, easy-to-read format and platform to keep you, the reader, aware of the club's activities. Experimental typefonts, colors, and presentations are made on a regular basis to enhance that goal.
