GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life. Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range. In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Well...it doesn't happen often, but the publication of this Newsletter to the server on the target date (5th of ea month) didn't happen this month. Just too much stuff got in the way! The target date (1st of ea month) of the Caldwell ARES (CARES) Newsletter didn't make it to the server on time either, as you probably discerned. January & February 2007 was not the way I like to start off a new year but, hopefully, things are straightening out now as we enter into March to wind up the 1st quarter of the year. On a brighter note, the February & March meetings saw 3 new members joining the club and 2 past members to rejoin. A nice, productive gain of 5 members. Let's keep the momentum going for the rest of the year!! During the March meeting, the membership decided to accept Blowing Rock's invitation to return to participate in their EmergencyFest 2007 on June 9th (just prior to Field Day 2007).
