The Caldwell Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) Net is called every Sunday night at 8:30 PM on the 147.33 (Hibriten) repeater. This is a formal directed net and is sponsored by the ARES. Its purpose is to train, and keep in readiness, a pool of qualified emergency radio operators in the event of a local and/or regional emergency.  Net checkins will be called by alpha groups and, unless you check in & out, you will be called again during the informal portion to offer any comments, etc.  The 147.33 repeater has a CTCSS tone of 141.3 mhz.     ??   Did you know...  ?? Before Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) turned to psychoanalysis, he did important work on neurology and was the first to work on the use of cocaine as a local anesthetic.  His use of cocaine for minor pains and his high praise for its efficacy led to a wave of cocaine addiction in Europe before the fact that it was addictive became known.

That "Alias" Thing...
Years ago, if you had an "alias", you could be viewed as a possible member of the criminal element.  But we all have aliases (nicknames) such as "Jim" for "James", etc.  An alias or nickname merely represents something else.  In the computer world,  aliases abound. Oftimes, an alias can work against you.  A prime example is your email address (an alias which represents you) which can lead to enormous amounts of spam & even viruses over time!  What to do?? Changing your prime email address is not always desired or warranted.   The obvious solution is to develop an alias that represents your alias (your prime email address) !  This is easily accomplished if you are already an ARRL member.  At their website,  sign up to be an online member (free). Once done,  sign up for an "alias".  You now become ka4xxx@arrl.net which forwards your email to your prime email address!  This acts to curb unwanted & undesirable spam thru ARRL's "extra" level of spamblockers and hacker-denial access .   Then, when asked, give  your "new" email address to those other than friends and relatives that you know and trust!  NEAT!
