GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

Pg 2 NOTE:  JANUARY 10TH MEETING TO BE HELD AT THE GAMEWELL FIRE DEPT.! The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986 (20 years minus 4) ! Repeater Committee : A new set of crystals were ordered and termination connectors are being sought to enable the club to reactivate the repeater using a length (130 ft) of new low-loss coax feedline.  The club repeater should be back "on the air" shortly.

Disaster Trailer Committee :  At a regular meeting, and after discussion, it was voted upon that the Disaster Trailer be sold.  The trailer has a For Sale sign on it...but so far...no takers.

EOC Kiosk Committee :  The installation of our proposd Delta Loop antenna to be installed atop the EOC Building has been placed on temporary hold pending other "enhanced"  sites that may become available soon.   More later...

I suppose, by this time, that everone has recuperated from the holidays and are thoroughly tired of hearing about making New Year's resolutions...so I won't suggest you make any.  Resolutions usually wind up getting broken anyway.  However, I don't see anything wrong with asking each of you to all join together and make a concerted effort to wind up last year's still-uncompleted projects and to roll up our sleeves to begin the projects that we have been tabling or have projected into 2008!  Won't you pitch in??
Crazy weather?  Yep, you bet!  I don't remember too many Januarys where the temp has reached a daytime high of 69 like it did today.  We have had a very unusual weather pattern over the past 6 or 7 months.  So far, we have been lucky...but will our luck hold out? February has been a traditional snow month for our region and I hope that we will remain lucky and not get any surprises. But if we do...are you ready to deploy to the EOC for emergency work??  Proper training is a must!! Be sure you have completed your courses.
