I won't bore you with details of all that we have accomplished as a club during 2005 (you can read past issues and editorials for that!).  Rather, we must now focus on what lies ahead for us in 2006! We have a sterling opportunity to double our accomplisments  in the coming year...what with several planned projects (the EOC new equipment setup, the furbishing of our Disaster Unit Trailer, and the strengthening of our overall club and ARES objectives).  Are we up to the tasks at hand?  YOU BET WE ARE! Are you, as individual club members, up to it?  Now that rests solely upon you!!  Actively participate! GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986!   Zowie!! This "Repeater News" section of the Newsletter will be temporarily discontinued effective with this issue, since The Lenoir ARC no longer has a coordinated-frequency pair or viable repeater due to the club frequency being recoordinated to the Alexander County ARES Group.  The 147.195 / 147.795 frequency pair had been LARC's frequency since 1989!  -Ed NEW LICENSEE - Welcome and congratulations  to Lea-Ann Branch , KI4MSW, (XYL of Greg Branch, KI4GZD), for successfully passing her recent Technician Class examination!
